Information:

A sextant is used for navigation. It was used by sailors to tell them how far to the north or south they were from the equator, by measuring the angle between the stars or the sun and the horizon. This was the sextant used by Livingstone in Central Africa. The sextant and bible came to represent the combination of politics, religion and science which made up the Livingstone myth.
