Visiting us

A new programme of workshops aim to engage and inspire young people to explore our resources, discover people and places and understand our changing world. Free workshops make use of the outstanding collection of material that the Royal Geographical Society has in its archives. The workshops which are based on our learning resources aim to support the geography, history and citizenship curriculum. Pictures of the Punjab: Free workshops for Key Stage 2 & 3 students

A class taking part on a workshop about Eastern AfricaThe Society will be running workshops in November and December 2008 for Key Stage 2 and 3 students, exploring the history, geography and culture of the Punjab region of India and Pakistan through creative writing and drama based activities. The workshops will be lead by Sundra Lawrence, founder and director of the 'Write Lines' youth poetry project. The workshops accompany a new exhibition entitled 'The Punjab: Moving Journeys' for which we have worked closely with a number of community and youth groups. Sessions will introduce students to the Punjab through cross curricular activities based on the Society's unique archival collections of maps, artefacts and photographs.


Details of Availability:

Workshops will take place on 3, 5, 7, 17, 19, 24, 26, 28th November and 1st & 3rd December.

Workshops last for two hours at the Society's premises, must be booked in advance and can accomodate a maximum of 30 students. Teachers interested in obtaining detailed information about session timings and content should contact the education officer at uta@rgs.org or alternatively call 0207 591 3057.

Additional considerations:

There is disabled access to the building and toilets near the main entrance. Please note that there are no lunch facilities available onsite. However in case of adverse weather conditions space can be provided for lunch indoors. There are no parking facilities onsite. The nearest bus/car park is the NCP at Kingston House North, Princes Gate, London SW7 1LS (tel: 0207 581 3371) on the right hand side of the road as you travel past the RGS-IBG towards Knightsbridge. The nearest tube station is South Kensington, which is a 10 minute walk from the Society.

Teacher INSET

The Society is pleased to offer a free INSET evening for Key Stage 3 History practitioners on Thursday 13th November 2008 from 5 to 7pm, exploring the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. The evening will provide an opportunity to preview new educational resources, have a private tour of a new exhibition and obtain free resources for use in your teaching, places are limited and teachers are advised to book early by calling the education officer on 0207 591 3057 or by emailing uta@rgs.org.
