Introduction

We aim to use the Society's archives to produce learning material which engages and inspires young people to explore our resources, discover people and places and understand our changing world.

We are developing resources which aim to develop thinking skills, visual literacy and stimulate debate. We are working with a focus group of teachers who are advising on the content of the learning themes and curriculum areas. Teachers and students will also be trialling material in the classroom. We welcome your suggestions and comments about the site which will help us to inform future themes. Please email us on uta@rgs.org

How to use the resources

The learning themes are divided into key questions for investigation. Each area of enquiry consists of factsheets for background information and associated downloadable activities. The key questions can be used as individual lessons or studied together as part of a scheme of work. The resources use the sources in the gallery or in some activities, students are asked to use the gallery for their own research. Please refer to the teacher's notes in the downladable activities for each theme.

The resources target the English curriculum KS 3 and 4 in Geography, History and Citizenship. The curriculum map shows which resources can be used to teach particular areas of the curriculum.

You may use the material on this web site for your own private study, non-commercial research, and non-commercial instructional or educational purposes (including use on an educational intranet restricted to authenticated users). See the terms and conditions for more information.

If you would like to share your ideas or experiences with others, please contribute your comments in the teacher's chat.
